Don't miss the Moon Festival fireworks — the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest

Missed last month’s Taipei Dadaocheng Music Fireworks Festival or Japan’s summer hanabi displays? No worries — the “25th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest” will launch on September 14. This year’s ten participating teams come from five continents around the globe, including companies from Spain, South Africa, Switzerland, South Korea, Portugal, Australia, Italy, Canada, France, and China. Among them, South Africa is a first-time participant, while teams from France and Italy have both won the championship twice before. This year, along with synchronized music, each team will also feature elaborately designed laser light effects, creating a spectacular audiovisual feast of dazzling fireworks over the waters in front of the Macao Tower.

This year’s event will be held over five days: September 14, 19, 21, 28, and October 1. Each night at 21:00 and 21:40, one team will present a fireworks show. On the opening night, Spain and South Africa will take the stage first. The South African African Fireworks Company, making its debut, has won multiple international fireworks competitions and was responsible for the opening and closing fireworks at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

 

Also taking part this year, Canada’s Groupe Fiatlux-Ampleman Fireworks Company boasts over a century of experience creating magnificent fireworks displays and frequently participates in domestic and international fireworks competitions and festival events. The Dongxin Fireworks Group Co., Ltd., originating from Liuyang in China’s “fireworks hometown” of Hunan, has produced fireworks shows for major events such as the 60th Anniversary National Day celebration at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 2009, the opening ceremony of the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and the fireworks display for the 2010 Asian Games.

 

In addition, Switzerland’s SUGYP SA Fireworks Company has participated in numerous international fireworks competitions and musical performances, while France’s BREZAC Fireworks Company has ranked highly in all four of its participations, winning twice. Italy’s PANZERA-INDUSTRIA has also claimed the title twice, as have teams from Spain and Portugal. Australia’s Infinity Fireworks Company took third place in the previous edition. And on National Day, October 1, teams from France and China will deliver the grand finale.
