Kaohsiung’s Big Rainbow Music Festival: 50 Artists Rock All Night

The Big Rainbow Music Festival is entering its third edition this year and will take place over two days, October 12–13, at Pier-2 Art Center and Pier 11. This year’s lineup includes nearly fifty artists of various styles—such as Yanging Wen, Sandee Chan, Matzka, Won Fu, Patty Hou, Wei Yu Hsuan, Xu Jia Ling, Bai An, Universe, Eggplant, and more—who will perform across four stages featuring pop, indie, hip-hop, rock, and alternative music. In addition to the music, there will be well-received music lectures, a harborfront market, local seafood snacks, and food trucks. This year also introduces a new “Rock Noise Factory” exhibition area, showcasing a variety of instruments and hosting on-the-spot jam sessions. The “Barber for Good” initiative invites renowned hairstylists to offer free haircuts, with all proceeds going to charity. The Moonlight Stage has been transformed into a dedicated space for emerging bands, featuring performances from groups across Taiwan.

Each year, the Big Rainbow Music Festival brings new surprises, and this year is no exception with the special “Rainbow Party,” keeping the fun going all night from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM. Another highlight is the collaboration between the event organizer, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the “2013 Big Rainbow Music Festival,” in support of the ongoing construction of the Southern Taiwan “Marine Culture and Pop Music Center.” As part of early talent development efforts to strengthen the local music industry, the festival is offering a music industry talent cultivation program. This provides participants with an inside look at the core operations of concert production and hands-on experience across various departments, allowing them to learn about the pre-production and live execution of large-scale concerts.
