Kumamon, Kumamoto’s mascot, draws enthusiastic fans as merchandise arrives in Taiwan

Department store and supermarket city’super has introduced a range of Kumamon merchandise from Japan, available in limited quantities for a limited time from today until the 22nd. To boost sales, Kumamon himself came to Taipei to meet fans, receiving a warm welcome from the public and fans, while also promoting Kumamoto tourism at the same time.

 

The merchandise introduced this time includes over 70 different items such as food and sundries, ranging from Kumamoto’s famous local specialties like nori seaweed, ramen, candies, cookies, and tea, to a rich variety of goods featuring Kumamon designs such as drawstring bags, wallets, tote bags, notepads, and baseball caps for the public to choose from.　

Kumamoto Prefecture’s mascot “Kumamon” has not only won first place in Japan’s mascot popularity poll, but has also seen a surge in popularity in recent years. His cute appearance has won over many Taiwanese people, whether or not they have visited Kyushu. This time, Kumamon came to Taiwan along with the merchandise exhibition to promote the region, and his close-up meet-and-greet events were packed with excited crowds vying to take photos, successfully drawing even more attention. It’s clear how beloved Kumamon, nicknamed the “Minister” (Kumamoto Promotion Minister), is among tourists.
