The Yellow Rubber Duck currently on display at Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier has tremendous charm, attracting over 500,000 visitors so far. In response to public concerns about the materials used in the duck, Mr. Lai Jui-long, Director of the Kaohsiung City Government’s Information Bureau, stated that the Yellow Rubber Duck is made from safe materials, and all officially certified merchandise have passed safety toy certifications—so everyone can rest assured.

Lai Jui-long said the Yellow Rubber Duck is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which does not pollute the ocean. After the exhibition ends, it will be recycled. At the same time, all officially certified merchandise have been inspected by the Bureau of Commodity Inspection and carry a safety toy label, posing no health risks to children. The city government will also educate the public to raise awareness about environmental issues.
The Yellow Rubber Duck has sparked a nationwide craze. On the opening day, 200,000 people flocked to Glory Pier to see the duck. On the 20th, there were also 100,000 visitors. Despite being briefly interrupted by Typhoon Usagi, during which the duck took a short “holiday,” after resuming the exhibition on the 22nd afternoon, it still attracted 150,000 visitors. Even on a Monday, 60,000 people came to admire it. Organizers report that in just four days of exhibition, total visitors have exceeded 500,000—far exceeding expectations.
