Hong Kong’s Halloween Carnival Month: Pumpkin Army Takes Over Huashan

The Huashan 1914 Creative Park, usually filled with an artistic ambiance during the day, undergoes a stunning transformation after dark. Ghostly figures appear on building facades, while spooky pumpkins from Hong Kong emerge one by one from beneath the turf, vividly displaying their sharp, mischievous eyes and grinning, toothy smiles. The dim, eerie lighting at night adds to the creepy yet fun atmosphere, making the night even more magical as darkness falls. In addition to being led by Hong Kong’s Halloween ambassador, Pumpkin Hero, in inviting the public to join the fun, the 2012 viral internet video “Play虾咪game,” featuring a Saw-like protagonist, challenges Hong Kong’s Halloween Carnival Month and competes against numerous pumpkin monsters from various settlements. He leads a chaotic dance party to disrupt the pumpkin festivities, recreating the classic “Play 虾咪game”!

 

In line with Halloween’s classic phrase “Trick or treat,” the Hong Kong Tourism Board has launched a double promotion during the event period. In addition to exchanging Halloween candy by checking in and sharing photos on-site, visitors can also scan QR codes on pumpkins to join the Pumpkin Hero capture team and stand a chance to win over 2,500 mystery gifts. Among them are five generous prizes, including a three-day, two-night Hong Kong flight and hotel package. Everyone is invited to join the fun, embrace the spookiness, and take home great rewards.

 

To compete with Hong Kong’s most popular Halloween ambassador, Pumpkin Hero, the 2012 viral video “Play虾咪game,” which garnered over 5 million views and featured a Saw-like protagonist, has declared he will defeat the many pumpkin monsters in the settlement. This year, he’s not going solo—he quips, “I want to play again.” In addition to recreating iconic scenes from the video on-site, he leads a wild dance party to disrupt the Taipei Halloween Pumpkin Festival. The festive pumpkin event, filled with a strong Halloween atmosphere and multiple mystery gifts, has him exclaiming how fun it is. He hopes to win a Hong Kong flight and hotel package through the QR code draw and urges netizens, “Stop staying at home playing Play虾咪game with your mom or girlfriend—come to Huashan for an amazing game and experience the ultimate Hong Kong Halloween Carnival Month in Hong Kong!”
