Taiwan’s HowToTrip “Orange Travel Pass” exclusively freezes high-speed rail fare hikes & offers up to 68% off for island-wide travel

Taiwan High-Speed Rail raised fares starting October 8, with increases of up to 9.6%. To promote domestic tourism, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Taiwan High-Speed Rail jointly launched the HowToTrip “Orange Travel Pass,” which not only freezes the fare hike but also offers a 75% discount, saving travelers 32% compared to buying high-speed rail tickets individually; plus, the first 500 sets come with a complimentary “HowToTrip Recognition Card” containing NT$100 in stored value; multiple discounts allow independent travelers in Taiwan to save even more.

The Tourism Bureau stated that the “Orange Travel Pass” includes a round-trip high-speed rail ticket (departure and return stations must be the same), a “Green Travel Pass” that can be used on any of 20 HowToTrip routes, and either a Taipei MRT one-day pass or a Kaohsiung MRT one-day unlimited card. The first 500 sets also include a “Taiwan Pass” electronic ticket (HowToTrip Recognition Card) with NT$100 in stored value, making it convenient for passengers to transfer between various bus lines, covering both short- and long-distance travel in one go. Taking a trip from Taipei to Kenting as an example, using the “Orange Travel Pass” to ride the high-speed rail now saves NT$1,030 (the post-hike fare is NT$3,260, while purchasing the high-speed rail ticket with the “Orange Travel Pass” costs only NT$2,230). Travelers can also exchange for discounted round-trip tickets on the “HowToTrip—Kenting Express” to quickly travel to and from the Kenting area, and use the included “HowToTrip Recognition Card” to take buses and explore various local attractions.

 

This year, netizens traveling have switched to the “Taiwan Travel Pass,” where the “Green Travel Pass” allows riding on any of 20 HowToTrip routes, making it perfect for exploring all over Taiwan or sharing one set among family and friends for greater convenience and savings; the “Blue Travel Pass,” combined with Taiwan Railways, is convenient for international independent travelers visiting Taiwan for multiple days, while the “Orange Travel Pass” offers up to a 69% discount on high-speed rail fares.
