As winter arrives in Tokyo each year, major attractions and shopping malls begin decorating with romantic and sparkling lights. This year, Tokyo Skytree is no exception, launching a special three-month winter illumination period. From November 1, 2013 to January 31 of the following year, you can enjoy a beautiful and heartwarming winter light show!

During the three-month special illumination period, the stairways leading to Tokyo Skytree—Sorami-zaka (空見坂) and Hanami-zaka (花見坂)—will also be decorated with LED lights. Additionally, from December 1 to 25, during the most festive Christmas season, Tokyo Skytree will present five exclusive limited-edition illuminations, becoming the largest Christmas tree by the Sumida River!

The green illumination represents the “Christmas Tree,” the red one is called the “Candle Tree,” the aqua-green is known as the “Champagne Tree,” while the blue and purple illuminations continue the more commonly seen themes of “Iki” (refined) and “Mi” (elegant). The entire Tokyo Skytree area will be lit up with over 500,000 LED lights, accompanied by a European-style flea market reminiscent of a funfair. On-site, German beer, red wine, and other goods will be sold, recreating the European charm of Christmas’ birthplace and aiming to create a richly romantic Christmas atmosphere and a sophisticated dating environment!
