The “2013 Taiwan Hot Spring Food Carnival” kicks off today in the Jinshan-Wanli Hot Spring area of New Taipei City. This year, the Tourism Bureau has united 17 hot spring areas nationwide to roll out numerous appealing offers. It has also appointed top travel and food personality Sasha and renowned voice actor A-Song as the event ambassadors, inviting all Taiwanese to “soak in great hot springs and win great prizes” before January 20, 2014.

Now in its 7th edition, the “2013 Taiwan Hot Spring Food Carnival” once again brings together operators from 17 hot spring areas across the country for a joint marketing campaign. By combining hot springs, gourmet food, and in-depth travel information, the event showcases local hot spring activities in various regions, along with special promotions, aiming to help more locals discover Taiwan’s finest hot springs and cuisine while attracting international tourists to experience them.

Tourism Bureau Director-General Xie Weijun stated that every autumn and winter, hot spring operators eagerly anticipate this event. The Food Carnival has entered its 7th year—it originally started as a Hot Spring Carnival, but later incorporated food elements, integrating local characteristics to offer visitors unique experiences at each destination. Taiwan’s diverse hot spring waters are world-renowned. Following the launch of the event, hot spring and gourmet offerings in various counties and cities will be rolled out one after another, waiting for visitors to explore and share.

Ambassador Sasha shared that Taiwan boasts numerous excellent hot springs. In Jinshan, the Jinshan-Wanli area features four types of springs: iron springs, sulfur springs, carbonated springs, and Taiwan’s one-of-a-kind submarine hot springs—making the allure of premium hot springs irresistible. She also reminded everyone not to miss out on trying the “Three Treasures of Jinshan”: taro, sweet potatoes, and beautiful-legs (a type of local vegetable) when visiting.

In addition, the Tourism Bureau noted that this year’s Hot Spring Food Carnival offers three major promotions. Visitors who soak in the hot springs and register online will have a chance to win the grand prize—a NT$100,000 gold savings certificate. Other prizes include a NT$50,000 gold savings certificate, as well as 175 other awards such as airline tickets, LCD TVs, tablets, digital cameras, and smartphones, with a total value exceeding NT$1 million—the highest ever.

This year’s hot spring activities bring together over 100 certified “Hot Spring Mark” operators across Taiwan, along with quality local restaurants and accommodation providers, to launch special offers. Paired with a lucky draw promotion titled “One Soak, Three Big Prizes,” the event also introduces a “Goodies Passport.” The passport can be picked up at tourism service centers nationwide. It not only compiles highlights of each hot spring area, lists hot spring businesses, and provides detailed transportation info, but also recommends must-visit attractions, must-try foods, and must-buy souvenirs in each area. Visitors who present the passport at designated shops or hot springs can enjoy exclusive discounts.

Additionally, internet users can join the draw by taking photos with the life-sized cutouts of ambassadors Sasha and A-Song and uploading them online, or by participating in the event, making purchases totaling NT$199 or more at Hot Spring Mark-certified stores and registering their receipts, or by earning points through passport exchanges.
