Locals swear by this place—must-try pork chop noodles in Fengyuan, Taichung, with tender texture and rich flavor

Fengyuan’s pork chop noodles are famous, with many tourists specifically requesting the "Qingshui Pork Chop Noodles" at Miaodong. So every holiday, it’s packed with no seats available, and even the takeout line is long. A colleague once took me to the one on Xinshun Street, and it didn’t seem any worse than the Miaodong branch. This time, a local in Fengyuan recommended this "Fengyuan Pork Chop Noodles" on Xiangyang Road, saying locals actually skip Miaodong and come here instead!! XD

The "Fengyuan Pork Chop Noodles" on Xiangyang Road is pretty easy to find. After coming up from the underpass on Zhongzheng Road, just keep walking and you’ll see it right across from Sanhuang Sanjia.

We came for dinner on a weekday, and the shop was mostly full, with plenty of takeout orders too. We waited a bit for our food to arrive.

Our group of 3.5 people ordered three bowls to share (Little Cherry is under two years old, so not much help—let’s count her as half a person… XD)

Meatball Noodles - $70 NT. Why get meatball noodles at a pork chop noodle shop? Honestly, I have no idea… haha!! But seeing the generous portion made me think: pretty sincere effort, at least.

The portion was really big, with lots of toppings. The broth was slightly sweeter, leaning more toward southern Taiwanese taste preferences, but I personally thought it was quite good.

Pork Chop Noodles - $90 NT. OMG!! Pork chop noodles have gone up to $90 NT now!! Back when I was studying in Fengyuan, a bowl only cost $60 NT… (though that was years ago—don’t ask how many, because you’ll have to lend me your fingers to count!).

The pork chops weren’t huge, quite different from the ones at Miaodong’s "Qingshui Pork Chop Noodles." Regulars would probably spot the difference right away, but I thought this size was nice too—the pork was tender, well-seasoned, and the smaller pieces felt more refined. Less risk of getting tired of it, and you can enjoy a bite of noodles, a bite of meat, a sip of broth… (perfect!)

Pork Steak Noodles - $95 NT. I’ve had pork chop noodles before, but this was my first time trying pork steak noodles!! Really grateful to the local for bringing me here—though my eyes will never be the same again.

Look at these huge pork steaks, almost as big as Little Cherry’s face. The steak was super tender, though the texture was naturally different from pork chops. Meat lovers would probably find the steak more satisfying.

The broth wasn’t greasy, and compared to Miaodong’s "Qingshui Pork Chop Noodles," it was a bit lighter and fresher, with a hint of pepper aroma.

The noodles were a bit softer for my taste, but Little Cherry loved them, finishing a third of the bowl all by herself—so impressive!! I guess everyone has different tastes and definitions of good food, so to each their own. But if you want to skip the line, I’d personally recommend this "Fengyuan Pork Chop Noodles" on Xiangyang Road—the flavor is just as good as the Miaodong branch.
