With the increasing number of homestay operators, accommodation environments that emphasize unique features have become the market mainstream. In Nanzhuang, there is such a homestay that primarily targets female guests. Whether in the guest rooms or the dining area, everything you see — from decorations to woodworking — is not only collected from around the world but also includes many pieces handmade by the owner, Xiao Qian. The warm, cute, and fairytale-like decor makes many girls hold their boyfriends’ hands and come here to experience a heartwarming feeling.

“80% of our guests are girls, and the remaining 20% are boyfriends who were dragged here by their girlfriends,” Xiao Qian said with a smile. At the entrance to the path leading to the homestay, a chubby dog and an elephant-shaped potted plant greet visitors. Once inside, wooden carvings and stuffed toys are placed everywhere, with innocent yet slightly silly expressions that make people can’t help but feel affectionate. But what’s puzzling is how Xiao Qian, who once worked in a science park, could draw inspiration for such delicate and heartwarming decor from a typically male way of thinking?

After several conversations, it was revealed that Xiao Qian, who is very close to his mother, gave up his job in the science park and returned to the mountain village to take on the role of homestay owner simply because, after the homestay business became stable, the large number of tourists and guests overwhelmed his mother. He switched careers to help share the load. Xiao Qian also channeled this sentiment into the homestay’s environmental design and planning, using many playful and adorable decorations to create a relaxing space that feels like home, hoping that every guest can leave their worries behind and slowly enjoy every moment in the mountains.

Step into the guest room, where warm-toned walls are adorned with vine and brick-pattern decorations. The spacious room, thanks to excellent natural light and wooden tatami flooring, feels calm and soft. Glancing casually into the corner, colorful children’s tables and chairs feature animal patterns such as elephants, lions, and monkeys. Though just a small part of the room, it’s enough to make one pause for a long while. Looking at these playful animals brings an uncontrollable smile.
