Three Themed Ways to Enjoy the Pingtung Wanjin Christmas Festival in this Southern Catholic Town

The large 3D landscape art painting at the “Holy Key Square” near the entrance to the basilica measures 6 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width, and was hand-painted over three days by domestic 3D landscape art master Liu Rensheng. The design was inspired by Psalm 23 from the Old Testament of the Bible: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Since roses are the most iconic flowers in Catholicism and the Rosary is considered one of the most beautiful forms of prayer among Catholics, they became the visual focus of the Wanjin Christmas Festival’s landscape art. The Tourism Communication Department also collaborated with the community to decorate key spots in Wanjin Village with roses, creating a Rose Art Town.

 

This year’s Wanjin Christmas Festival continues previous editions by incorporating the coffee industry of the Ulaljuc Tribe in Taiwu Township, promising a colorful and exciting month-long event. The lighting ceremony on November 30 will begin at 5:00 PM, and once the 8-meter-tall giant Christmas tree is illuminated, a series of surprises will follow — including the Feast of the Immaculate Conception procession at the Wanjin Basilica on December 8, the Pingtung Indigenous Coffee Industry Development Program achievement presentation on December 14, the Pingtung Coffee Tasting Competition and Grassland Starlight Coffee Music Festival on December 21 and 22, culminating in the Angels’ Voice Christmas Gala and the Taiwu Coffee Street event on December 24.

In addition, the Tourism Communication Department has set up a special Wanjin Christmas-themed exhibition hall in Wanjin Village, showcasing related Christmas artifacts and cultural creative goods. During the Wanjin Christmas Festival period, there will also be a Nativity Scene Cultural Installation Competition and an Ulaljuc Home Christmas Decoration Exhibition, filling the area with a rich Christmas atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another country. To allow visitors to more deeply experience the unique religious vibe of Wanjin, the Tourism Communication Department also recommends three themed mini-trips: the Leisure Trip along the Mountain Highway, visiting Golden Stone Coffee Leisure Farm, Kaiyuan Farm, and Quan Garden to enjoy pastoral scenery; the Christmas Trip to the Wanjin Basilica, connecting Arti Coffee, Ice BAR Café, Cabin Creative Kitchen, Eudora Creative Handmade Desserts, and Ulaljuc Tribal Coffee House for a taste of boutique dining; and the Taste Trip through the Wanluan District, highlighting emerging cacao industries in Wanluan and Neipu areas, as well as Southeast Asian-style vegetarian cuisine at Anluan Villa.

 

Additionally, this year’s Wanjin Christmas Festival includes thoughtful designs in its promotional materials. A limited edition of 1,000 Golden Christmas Lunch Boxes features discount vouchers from eight local shops on the packaging, allowing you to save on coffee and meals. Each lunch box, valued at over NT$80, is a great deal. The promotional brochure also includes coffee coupons, which can be collected starting now at 7-Eleven convenience stores across Pingtung, making it easy for visitors to plan their trip to the Wanjin Christmas Festival.
