High-speed rail New Year's Eve transport tickets go on sale at midnight on Dec. 4

New Year's Day 2014 falls on a Wednesday. Although there is only one day off, many netizens have still planned cross-year celebrations and trips back home from north to south. Taiwan High Speed Rail has scheduled New Year's Eve transport services from Dec. 31, 2013, to Jan. 2, 2014, adding 10 extra train services, while suspending 5 commuter trains during peak hours. A total of 377 train services will be provided over the three days, with free seating and the “early bird discount” both maintained. In addition, starting at midnight on Dec. 4, passengers can purchase round-trip tickets for the New Year's Eve transport period from Dec. 31, 2013, to Jan. 2, 2014, in advance via 24-hour high-speed rail partner convenience stores, online booking, the T Express mobile app, the voice reservation system, or at ticket windows and ticket vending machines at stations during business hours.

During the 2014 New Year's Eve transport period, 311 train services will offer the “early bird discount,” accounting for 82.5% of all services. Passengers who book tickets between 8 and 28 days before the departure date may enjoy early bird discounts of 65%, 80%, or 90%. For some services, in addition to the 65% and 80% discounts, a minimum 90% discount is also available. Furthermore, free seating, limited upgrades to business class, and standard class ticket discounts will continue to be offered during the transport period. Passengers holding period tickets, multi-ride tickets, or EasyCard co-branded cards can enter stations directly by tapping their cards. Special programs such as senior citizen discounts, college student discounts, and school excursion discounts are suspended.
