As 2013 draws to a close, Facebook (脸书) has officially released its annual rankings of the most checked-in locations by region and worldwide. Among the top spots are Tokyo Disneyland, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands, and Seoul’s Myeongdong in South Korea. Taiwan’s Tainan Garden Night Market not only became the most popular check-in location in Taiwan, but also ranked 12th globally.

In its 2013 year-end review, Facebook analyzed posts throughout the year to determine the most popular check-in spots, most discussed topics, and most shared life moments among users. Night markets have always been one of Taiwan’s most iconic tourist attractions. From north to south, both domestically and internationally, to truly experience Taiwan’s unique local street life, visiting a night market is a must. That’s why the top three most checked-in spots in Taiwan are all night markets. Tainan Garden Night Market not only claimed the No. 1 spot in Taiwan but also ranked 12th globally. Yilan’s Luodong Night Market took second place in Taiwan and 25th globally, while Taichung’s Fengjia Night Market secured third place in Taiwan and 26th globally.
