The Xiangti Boulevard of Taipei International Christmas Town transforms into Taiwan’s largest Christmas card

Co-organized by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and MediaKu Communications Co., Ltd., the “2013 Taipei International Christmas Town” kicks off today and runs until December 25. Over the course of this 13-day festive season, it incorporates for the first time famous landmarks and elements from five major international cities, including Taipei 101, the honored citizen giant panda cub Yuan Zai, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House, and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. These elements transform Xiangti Boulevard in Taipei’s Xinyi District into a Christmas wonderland full of exotic charm. Additionally, the “Christmas Delivery” service, newly launched in partnership with citizens’ favorite – YouBike – invites locals to participate by sending Christmas gifts to friends and family via Christmas-themed YouBikes.

The Department of Information and Tourism stated that this year’s Taipei Christmas Town cleverly transforms Xiangti Boulevard in the Xinyi shopping district into an open-air Parisian Left Bank-style café and Taiwan’s largest three-dimensional musical Christmas card. Whether walking through the area or standing on the pedestrian overpass, visitors can explore the dreamlike sea of lights and the beauty of a Christmas city filled with international flair from various perspectives and vantage points. Furthermore, the main stage area of Taipei International Christmas Town will feature stunning international city-themed Christmas shows, presented by top performance troupes from around the world, delivering high-quality large-scale performances. These shows will take place on weekends over the next two weeks, with an even more special international Christmas gala evening scheduled for Christmas Eve. Other highlights include a fun and engaging Christmas town scavenger hunt, the heartwarming YouBike Christmas Delivery service, as well as contributions from major international brands offering a variety of exquisite Christmas gifts, all of which further highlight the ultimate spirit of love and sharing embodied in the 2013 Taipei International Christmas Town.

The main stage activities at Xiangti Square during Taipei International Christmas Town will also take place over four consecutive weekend holidays (December 14, 15, 21, and 22), featuring international city-themed Christmas shows such as classic jazz from New York, USA, the Moulin Rouge from Paris, France, performances from the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and acrobatic acts from Moscow, Russia. A total of 12 large-scale performances across three shows per day will showcase diverse international Christmas vibes. After each performance, all performers will come down to the stage to take photos and interact with the audience, creating beautiful Christmas memories together. Additionally, on Christmas Eve, December 24, there will be an extra Christmas carnival evening show, featuring alternative remix versions of Christmas songs to turn Taipei into a joyful city that never sleeps.

In addition, this year’s Christmas Town is launching for the first time the “Christmas Delivery” activity in collaboration with YouBike. From December 14 to December 22, a nine-day mission acceptance period will be available at the Christmas Town service desk, offering citizens 500 opportunities. From December 23 to December 25, the service will deliver happiness across the city over three days.
