Taiwan’s first “Building ‘Light’ Taichung – Shining Century 3D Light Sculpture Fixed Performance Show” continues to draw crowds. From mid-November through the end of the year, the 16-minute classic light sculpture show will be screened hourly every Saturday evening at Taichung Prefectural Hall. In celebration of the upcoming holidays, starting December 14th, the “Christmas & New Year Edition” of the light show will be unveiled. Unlike the “Classic Edition,” the story concludes in winter—under a blanket of snow, sparkling stars descend and transform into dazzling ornaments on a Christmas tree. Santa Claus sleighs across the city skyline, showering Taichung Prefectural Hall with a flurry of gifts. Icicle-dusted musical notes joyfully dance to the music, while golden ribbons twist into a two-story-tall Christmas tree. The walls of the Prefectural Hall are adorned with colorful lights as they join the public in celebrating Merry Christmas and welcoming 2014.

The currently screening 16-minute “Shining Century 3D Light Sculpture Show” at Taichung Prefectural Hall has received widespread acclaim. Nowadays, every Saturday evening, crowds begin to gather in the square in front of the hall—some coming with friends, others with family—either sitting on the ground or finding the best viewing spots, waiting in the relaxed atmosphere of live music and projected light segments for the fixed show to begin. Each additional screening is packed to capacity with an excited audience, and the positive word-of-mouth online has only driven more visitors. Taichung Prefectural Hall has become a new highlight of Taichung’s nighttime cultural scene.

The extended “Shining Century 3D Light Sculpture Show” Christmas edition will be screened every Saturday evening starting December 14th, as well as on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, at Taichung Prefectural Hall—totaling four additional screenings. Each night, shows will be held at 19:00, 20:00, and 21:00. Fans of cultural events shouldn’t miss out.
