2014 high-speed rail Spring Festival transport tickets go on presale at midnight on December 31

During the Spring Festival transport period, there is ample transport capacity, with up to 7 trains per hour in one direction during peak hours. From February 2 (the third day of the Lunar New Year) to February 4 (the fifth day), 105 northbound trains will be operated in one direction, setting a new single-day record. Based on past ticketing experience, as soon as tickets go on sale, the high-speed rail online booking system and the “T Express” mobile ticketing and reservation system often experience slower speeds due to a sudden surge in traffic. Unless you are booking for specific peak periods (such as after noon on January 29, the eve of the holiday; before evening on January 30, the first day of the holiday; or in the morning of February 1, the second day of the Lunar New Year), or for Early Bird Discount services, it is recommended to use the over 9,800 convenience store ticketing points, or try booking slightly later on the day of sale through other channels to avoid peak online traffic.

 

For the 2014 Spring Festival transport period, regarding the non-reserved seating service, considering that the period overlaps partially with weekdays, in order to serve commuters, during the first three days of the transport period (January 27 to 29) and the last day (February 5), which are weekdays, the current service model with 4 non-reserved seating cars (cars 9, 10, 11, and 12) during peak hours will remain unchanged. For all other train services during the Spring Festival transport period, 3 non-reserved seating cars will be provided.

 

For the Early Bird Discount, during the 2014 Spring Festival transport period, 850 train services will offer the Early Bird Discount, accounting for 52.1% of the total number of services. Passengers who purchase tickets between 8 and 28 days before the departure date may be eligible for discounts of 65%, 80%, or 90%. For some services, in addition to the 65% and 80% discounts, a minimum discount of 90% is available.

 

For passengers holding period tickets or multi-ride tickets, if the validity period of their tickets coincides with the 6-day national holiday period from January 30 to February 4, Taiwan High Speed Rail will automatically extend the validity of the tickets by 6 days starting from February 5 (inclusive). Passengers holding period tickets, multi-ride tickets, or EasyCard co-branded cards can enter stations and board trains by simply tapping their cards. Other discounts include a Spring Festival edition student discount and standard class ticket discount services, while limited business class upgrades are available on January 27, 28, and February 5, 2014. However, senior discounts, group discounts for groups of 30 or more, and school trip specials do not apply to these offers.
