Top 3 New Year's Eve Events in Kaohsiung You Must See – Transportation Info

To manage the large crowds and transportation demands of the three major New Year’s Eve events in Kaohsiung, traffic controls will be in place around Era Boulevard, the World Games Main Stadium, and YEDA World. To ensure rapid and safe dispersal of the crowds, Kaohsiung MRT will extend its operating hours until 3:00 AM on New Year’s Day, with possible flexible extensions as needed. During peak times, trains will run every 2.5 minutes. It is recommended that the public park their vehicles at one of the seven MRT transfer parking lots, then take MRT, shuttle buses, or walk to the event venues.

 

For city buses, those holding an EasyCard can ride for free until the end of the year. Shuttle buses along MRT lines (Red 2, Red 3, Red 8, Red 9, Red 10, Red 18, Red 33, Red 53, Red 58, Red 60, Red 69, Red 70, Red 71, Red 72, Orange 7, Orange 12, Orange 20B), as well as Route 168 Circular, Route 70, and Route 205 China Trunk Line, will also extend their service hours until 2:00 AM. Due to New Year’s rerouting, Route 205 China Trunk Line will adjust its route from midnight on December 31 to 7:00 AM on January 1: original route – Zhonghua 5th Road – Zhengqin Road – Chenggong 2nd Road – Fuxing 3rd Road – then back to original route.

 

To serve visitors from other counties and cities, the city government has coordinated with Taiwan Railways and Taiwan High Speed Rail to add extra services. On New Year’s Eve, December 31, the latest northbound train from Kaohsiung Station to Chiayi departs at 1:45 AM, the latest northbound train to Tainan departs at 2:40 AM, and the latest southbound train to Pingtung departs at 2:20 AM. For the Mayday “Just Rock It” concert on January 1, additional local trains will be added. The latest northbound train from Taiwan Railways’ Xinzuoying Station to Chiayi departs at 1:22 AM, and the latest southbound train to Pingtung departs at 1:10 AM.

 

To accommodate the Dream Mall New Year’s Eve event, from now until 0:00 AM on January 4, Era Boulevard (from Chenggong 2nd Road to Zhonghua 5th Road) will be closed to traffic. From 0:00 AM on December 30 to 7:00 AM on New Year’s Day, Zhonghua 5th Road (from Zhengqin Road to Xingfa Road) will be closed to traffic.  

 

On December 31 for the Dream Mall New Year’s Eve Party, from 0:00 AM to 3:00 AM on New Year’s Day, a three-phase traffic control will be implemented in the area east of Chenggong 2nd Road, south of Fuxing 3rd Road, west of Zhongshan 3rd Road, and north of Xin Kaixuan 4th Road. The first phase affects Era Boulevard (from Chenggong Road to Zhongshan Road) and Zhonghua 5th Road (from Zhengqin Road to Xingfa Road). The second phase affects the area east of Chenggong 2nd Road (included), south of Fuxing 3rd Road (excluded), west of Zhongshan 3rd Road (excluded), and north of Xingfa Road and Old Kaixuan 4th Road (included). A third phase may be activated depending on traffic conditions, expanding the controlled area to east of Chenggong 2nd Road (included), south of Linkou 4th Road (excluded), west of Zhongshan 3rd Road (included), and north of Xin Kaixuan 4th Road (excluded).

 

Vehicles other than buses (including public and chartered buses), ambulances, and other emergency vehicles are prohibited from entering the above-controlled areas. Sidewalks within the control zone will be entirely off-limits for parking, with enhanced towing and enforcement. Vehicles are advised to park at the Shin Kong Parking Lot next to the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center on Chenggong 2nd Road, then take a free shuttle bus using your EasyCard. The parking lot inside the Dream Mall venue will remain closed for departure until 2:00 AM on New Year’s Day. The outdoor third parking lot has limited spaces and is expected to reach full capacity by 6:00 PM on the day. It is recommended that the public take the MRT to the Kaixuan Station and walk to the venue. Those wishing to take taxis should walk to one of the three designated taxi stands: Zhonghua Road / Old Kaixuan Intersection, Zhongshan 3rd Road / Old Kaixuan Intersection, or Guanghua 3rd Road / Zhongshan 3rd Road Intersection.

 

For the Mayday concert at the World Games Main Stadium, from 4:00 PM on December 31 and 3:30 PM on January 1, traffic on Shiyun Avenue (from Zuonan Road to Junxiao Road) will be restricted. The World Games Main Stadium parking lot will not be open to the public. Enhanced towing and enforcement against illegal parking will be in place. It is recommended that the public take the MRT directly to the World Games Main Stadium Station, or park their cars or motorcycles at the “Free Temporary Parking Lot on South Zhanqian Road in front of Xinzuoying Station,” then take the free shuttle bus to the venue.

 

The YEDA World New Year’s Eve Party will implement a three-phase traffic control starting at 6:00 PM on December 31 until 3:00 AM. The first phase begins at 6:00 PM, restricting private cars from entering YEDA World. The second phase at midnight only allows shuttle buses and motorcycles to exit. The final phase after 1:30 AM permits private cars to leave, with those parked at I-Shou University and the first and second parking lots only allowed to exit via Provincial Highway 186A toward Dashu. Other vehicles may exit via Provincial Highway 186A toward Dashu or Yida 2nd Road. The three-phase traffic control zones include Shuiguan Road, Yida 2nd Road, Xuefu Road, Xuecheng Road, County Highway 46, and Dashu Ping’an Bridge.
