Taipei’s 9 Major Shopping Districts Boost Sales with New Year’s Goods Fever Passport, Saving You NT$100,000

With the Lunar New Year approaching, the Taipei City Government has introduced three major themed events this year: “Taipei New Year’s Goods Street,” “Taipei Spring Festival Shopping Month,” and “World Trade New Year’s Goods Exhibition – Taipei New Year’s Goods Theme Pavilion.” In collaboration with hypermarkets, department stores, and over a hundred shops, they have also launched the “Come to Taipei for a Great New Year” New Year’s Goods Fever Passport, offering discounts totaling over NT$100,000. It can be picked up for free from January 10 at Taipei City Travel Service Centers, district offices, and international airports.

This year’s “Taipei New Year’s Goods Street” includes nine major shopping districts: Dihua, Ningxia, Houtianzhan, Taipei Underground Street, Huayin Street, Rongbin, Ximen, Yuanlin, and Siping. Each district highlights its unique characteristics to launch New Year’s events for different demographics. The historically rich Dihua district will attract visitors with nearly a hundred stalls of New Year goods over 19 days. As for the highly anticipated “Lucky Gold” each year, this year features a creative twist—visitors can fold their own rocking horse figurines, and if they reveal a gold NT$1 coin on the horse’s back upon completion, it symbolizes the auspicious meaning of “instant wealth.” The Taipei City Government team will visit six major districts to give out blessings on January 18, 26, and 27.

 

This year, the Taipei City Government has partnered with hypermarkets, department stores, and local shops to launch the “Spring Festival Shopping Month” event. Hypermarkets like Carrefour, RT-Mart, and A-mart are focusing on the pre-holiday “TV replacement” trend, each offering special discount promotions. Among them, Carrefour offers the biggest savings, with a special deal from January 24–30 for an RANSO 50T LCD monitor + PHILIPS 3D Blu-ray home theater system. Originally priced at NT$44,800, it’s now available for NT$32,888. Department stores are also joining in, with eight malls offering early-bird gifts and dessert redemption gifts for reaching spending thresholds. On January 31, present the New Year’s Goods Passport or HAPPY GO card at Pacific SOGO Department Store to redeem a moricaca or Baoquan mochi gift bag with any purchase amount. On the same day, Takashimaya Department Store will give a New Year’s lucky red envelope to customers who spend NT$888 or more.

 

Additionally, some shops in Taipei City are offering discounts close to 50% off retail prices. For example, the “Mingjiao Tea House” flavor gift box, originally priced at NT$1,640 for two boxes, is now NT$920. At “Fengdecun,” tea purchases enjoy a 20% discount. “Quanfa Honey” classic mini honey is NT$49, down from the original NT$100. “Peony Garden” offers a free serving of its NT$220 soft-shell crab skewer rolls with any in-store purchase.

 

This year, Taipei’s East District is also full of New Year’s spirit. Taking advantage of the increased foot traffic and business opportunities brought by the opening of the Xinyi Line MRT, the Taipei City Government, in collaboration with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, held the first World Trade New Year’s Goods Exhibition from January 16–22. They set up a “Taipei New Year’s Goods Theme Pavilion,” inviting nearly 40 well-known local businesses to participate. The exhibition features three themed streets—New Year dishes, gifts, and fun—and displays in image pavilions. The Green Garden Food & Style Villa is offering Buddha Jumps Over the Wall at NT$5,280, down from the original NT$8,880, and Ruan’s Dried Meat at NT$200, down from NT$250. During the exhibition period, there are also giveaways such as limited-edition Yuanbao (lucky pig) cards, scratch cards, and MRT ride vouchers.
