Taiwan ranked 11th among the world’s must-visit destinations in 2014

 

Taiwan’s tourism industry has once again received international recognition. Following the UK's The Guardian including Taiwan in its list of recommended travel destinations this year, The New York Times has also placed Taiwan on its 2014 list of 52 must-visit places, ranking it 11th, surpassing places such as Frankfurt in Germany and Ishigaki Island in Japan. The article also highlighted that Taiwan is an island where you can experience both urban sophistication and outdoor leisure in a single trip.

The New York Times noted in its report that Taipei, which was named the World Design Capital for 2016, has a convenient transportation network. In addition to featuring Eslite Bookstore and delicious street snacks, visitors can also enjoy Taipei’s waterfront scenery along its 17 bike lanes. Moreover, it takes only about four hours to reach Kenting National Park in southern Taiwan by high-speed rail and bus. There, you can easily explore wetlands, white-sand beaches, and charming fishing villages, while Orchid Island is hailed as a diving paradise. Additionally, the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology in Keelung’s Badouzi area and its surrounding trails are also recommended spots to experience the region’s culture and landscapes.
