Netizens who have already started their Lunar New Year shopping might want to take a trip to Taipei World Trade Center’s New Year Goods Street to stock up on festive dishes and gifts all at once. In the evening, you can also head to Bitan Bridge to admire the illuminated night scenery dressed in New Year finery. Additionally, Taichung’s flower fields are in full bloom, offering a romantic way to spend the weekend break, where you can also track down teddy bears around downtown Taichung and Sun Moon Lake. For those in southern Taiwan, besides the Pier-2 Art Center’s Sculpture Biennale, there’s also a New Year Goods Street event at the outdoor Times Square of Dream Mall, where renowned chefs will share tips on cooking festive dishes. With just two weeks left until Lunar New Year, the Taipei-themed pavilion at the World Trade Center’s New Year Goods Exhibition not only sells ready-to-deliver festive dishes and meal vouchers on-site, but also invites a chef from South Africa at 2:00 PM on January 18 to demonstrate an abalone cooking show, preparing international-style dishes using abalone. At 2:30 PM on January 19, master chef Wang Rongrong, known for her military dependents’ village cuisine, will teach everyone how to cook. Then at 3:00 PM, the 50-year-old queue-famous store “Yi Chang Yu Fang” at Nanmen Market, together with food critic Li Meixian, will provide hands-on lessons on reheating frozen festive dishes. Additionally, the Miaoli Cultural and Creative Pavilion’s exhibition and sales activities are designed around the theme of traditional old houses, creating an atmosphere of bringing home thoughtful New Year gifts. The site features not only a cultural and creative gift window, offering the public a selection of festive-themed gifts, but also daily merchant promotions, Miaoli street performer shows, quiz contests, and lucky draws during the event period.

Taipei City Zoo’s giant panda cub “Roundy” has officially started work, and the Taipei City Government has also launched a painted MRT Wenhu Line train – the “Roundy Train.” Both the inside and outside of the Roundy Train feature drawings of Roundy and the zoo, and the train seats even have 3D sticker decals for interactive photo opportunities.

Taiwan’s first music-synchronized Bitan Suspension Bridge light show is getting into the Lunar New Year spirit. Starting today (17th) through February 14, the Bitan Suspension Bridge light show will feature celebratory songs to mark the festive season. Families are welcome to visit Bitan during the Lunar New Year holiday to enjoy the hourly festive light shows from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM every evening.
