The main lantern of the Kaohsiung Gangshan Lantern Festival makes its debut with a five-day fireworks extravaganza

The “2014 Gangshan Lantern Festival” officially begins on January 31 (the first day of the Lunar New Year) and will last for 15 days. In addition to the creative screw-shaped main lantern, there will be a Gangshan rural-themed lantern area and a 3D water dance light show. The public is welcome to visit Gangshan during the Spring Festival to experience the local joy and happiness.

The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival is one of Taiwan’s three major lantern festivals. In addition to the city center event, it also includes lantern festivals in Qishan, Fo Guang Shan, and Gangshan. Each Kaohsiung lantern festival has its own unique theme, rich cultural significance, and a colorful presentation for the public. This year, the Gangshan main lantern is designed around the theme of screws, incorporating eco-friendly concepts along with local specialties such as Gangshan’s famed lamb, honey, and soybean paste. The festival features innovatively planned multi-themed lantern areas and stunning water dance performances, aiming to offer visitors a unique audiovisual experience.

 

The 2014 Gangshan Lantern Festival includes as many as nine themed zones: the main lantern area, the “Love & Marriage – Red String of Fate” lantern area by the local government, the “Second Prison Creative Lantern Area,” the “Basket & Blessing Lantern Area” that combines Gangshan baskets with wishes for good fortune, the “Colorful Lantern Painting Area” and “Creative Lantern Area” showcasing the creativity of Gangshan students, as well as the “Rural Peak Lantern Area,” “Hope Lantern Wall Prayer Area,” and “All Faiths Blessing Area” that reflect Gangshan’s rural charm. Each zone presents a distinct style and appeal.

The Gangshan District Office announced that from the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, the festival stage program will feature a dazzling opening by the international performance group Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe and superstar host Dong Zhicheng. Additional performances will include appearances by Golden Melody Award-winning artist Huang Fei, singers Tsai Changxian, Luo Shifeng, Hsu Fu-kai, Huang Wenxing, Lin Lianghuan, and Tsai Yide, along with a 3D water dance light show and vibrant fireworks displays from the first to the fifth day of the New Year, ensuring a joyful celebration.
