1,600 paper pandas visit Taipei as 200 paper Formosan black bears welcome them at National Theater & Concert Hall

The large-scale outdoor installation exhibition “1600 Pandas World Tour – Taipei,” co-hosted by the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism and Left Brain Creative, is set to kick off on February 28 in Taipei. This marks the first stop of the paper panda sculptures’ Asian tour. The 1,600 paper pandas, which have traveled to over 20 cities in Europe including Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, and Rome, along with specially created paper Formosan black bears, will meet the public at the exhibition.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin stated that this exhibition specially invited artist Paulo Grangeon to create a representation of Taiwan’s most iconic protected animal—the Formosan black bear. It is hoped that the display of 200 paper Formosan black bears will raise public awareness of local conservation issues. After the exhibition, there are plans to auction off these paper pandas and Formosan black bears for charity, with proceeds going to animal protection and ecological public welfare organizations, aiming to contribute to wildlife conservation and environmental protection in Taiwan.
This exhibition will be held in two phases. The first phase will take place at Civic Square, where the Taipei City Government has also planned the “Bears Are Worth Seeing” program. In addition to adorable paper panda sculptures, the exhibition area will be decorated with various flowers and panda-themed green sculptures. At night, lighting effects will create a beautiful light show. The second phase will be held at the National Theater & Concert Hall Arts Plaza, where the specially created 200 paper Formosan black bears for the Taipei event will make their first appearance.

The “1600 Pandas World Tour—Taipei” paper panda sculpture exhibition is completely free. To allow more people to conveniently visit the exhibition, the organizers have planned two phases. The first phase runs from February 28 to March 9 at Taipei City Hall Civic Square, and the second phase runs from March 14 to March 30 at the National Theater & Concert Hall Arts Plaza. The exhibition is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the public is welcome to visit freely.
