The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival unveils the “Treasure Yuan Sky Lantern,” with the “Wishing Sky Lantern” making its debut at Pingxi Junior High School

As the excitement of the Lunar New Year holiday lingers, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is in full swing. The first event of the 2014 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival kicked off on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, featuring the “Treasure Yuan Sky Lantern,” which symbolizes wealth and prosperity, ascending into the sky. The second event is scheduled for February 8 at Pingxi Junior High School, where a “Wishing Sky Lantern” composed of blessings in many different languages from around the world will be released. The grand finale on February 14 at Shifen Square will introduce the adorable and heartwarming “Round Baby Sky Lanterns.” Each event of the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival is planned to release 10 waves of lanterns, with a total of 4,300 lanterns across the three events.

To allow more people to share the sense of peace and happiness brought by the sky lanterns, the “New Taipei Travelers” Facebook fan page has launched the “A Lifetime of Happiness Takes Flight – Hope to Fly” wish campaign. From now until February 23, anyone who posts their lifelong wish on the “New Taipei Travelers” fan page will have a chance to win a NT$10,000 Wish Fulfillment Fund or a small祈祷天灯 (prayer sky lantern) keychain (200 winners). To encourage everyone to make their wishes early in the new year, fans who post their wishes before February 7 will also be entered into a draw to win VIP lantern-release seats at the February 14 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival (10 spots).
