The 2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival will open on Valentine’s Day, February 14, in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou. While the impressive main and secondary lanterns are always the center of attention, the Tourism Bureau noted that this year’s creative lantern zone — “Forest Rhapsody,” themed around a joyful forest of endless imagination, aims to create a dreamlike world that brings a sense of wonder and delight to both children and adults, and is expected to become a major photo hotspot during the festival.

This year marks the 25th edition of the Taiwan Lantern Festival, which will be held from February 14 to 23 in Zhongxing New Village, Nantou. Among the specially recommended creative zones, “Forest Rhapsody” draws inspiration from the joyful atmosphere of children playing in community parks, and is designed around the theme of a happy forest of infinite imagination. At the heart of the lantern zone stands the giant forest guardian “Golden Lion King” atop a towering, majestic cliff, leading the Wind Eagle, Ice Wolf, Forest Titan, and animals at the foot of the mountain in jointly protecting the Fantasia Forest. After walking through a romantic light corridor woven with heart-shaped lanterns and adorned with beautiful starlight, visitors will encounter various themed lantern areas surrounding the entire forest — including “The Insect’s Imaginary World,” “Fairy Tale Romance ~ Fairy Spirits,” “Magical Barbie,” “Cartoon Fantasy Superheroes,” “Happy Clowns Having Fun Together,” “~Ride~ Wonderful Animals,” “Forest Candy House,” and “Dream Voyage.” These, along with the various animals in the woods and the stunning LED lighting environments and light sculptures throughout, will make this the most eye-catching lantern area of the 2014 Taiwan Lantern Festival.

The Tourism Bureau reminds visitors that this year’s lantern festival venue, Zhongxing New Village, has narrow roads, no rail transport services, and limited parking options nearby. It is recommended that visitors take advantage of public transportation such as high-speed rail and regular trains, and use the Central Taiwan Lantern Viewing Shuttle Buses. Those driving should follow the slogan: “Take Freeway No. 2 Southbound, Freeway No. 1 Northbound; go through Caotun when heading south, and through Mingjian when going north,” to help ease traffic congestion.
