Many travelers visiting the historic city of Tainan either drive or rent a scooter to explore the area, with few taking the time to slowly appreciate Tainan’s scenery via local buses. The Tainan City Government Transportation Bureau has integrated and promoted six major trunk routes and 74 branch lines of the Greater Tainan Bus system. They also invited six celebrity writers, including Liu Kexiang, to actually ride the buses and explore the routes, launching the “Celebrities Show the Way” light travel bus activity. From the perspectives of these celebrities, they documented the natural features and cultural landscapes along the six major trunk bus routes of Greater Tainan. They have also produced the “Greater Tainan Trunk Bus Light Travel Handbook,” which can be obtained at various government offices and tourist service centers within Tainan City, or downloaded from the Greater Tainan Bus Information website.

The travel articles in the handbook introduce 6bus route tours, including sections on celebrity-guided tours, route overviews, and attraction highlights. The celebrity-guided tours feature travel accounts recorded by six celebrity writers, each using their area of expertise to lead the public through the sights along the six major trunk bus routes. The green line is led by nature writer Liu Kexiang, who takes the Green Trunk Line No. 20 and recounts the historical charm of the small towns along the way, such as the abundance of fruits at the Xinhua Fruit and Vegetable Market and the archaeological culture at the Zuozhen Fossil Museum. Urban writer Wang Haoyi explores the blue line, introducing the beauty of the sesame fields in Anding and Xigang, the culinary delights and temple art of Jiali District, and the captivating presence of century-old trees.
Historian Chen Shixian leads a tour of temples along the brown line, showcasing the “Hánfān káng miào jiǎo” (clumsy foreigners carrying temple corners) at Jiali Zhenxing Temple, the Ye Wang jiaozi pottery preserved at Xuejia Ciji Temple, and the paper-cut artwork by He Jinlong, detailing the exquisite artistry of temple design. Mountain photographer Cui Zuxi takes the orange line, crafting a photography-focused travel route that goes from the plains northward to the Jianshan Irrigation System and Wushantou Reservoir. Capturing the landscapes from streets, mountain paths, to waterways, he documents the scenic beauty of southern Taiwan.

The yellow line is led by travel expert Gong Toujian, who, during the slow bus journey, recommends classic rural southern scenes. At Wushulin Cultural Park, he shares historical memories with Japanese travelers, strolls through the town feeling the warmth and hospitality of its people. Food writer Wang Xuan Yi uses the new mode of travel—buses—to introduce a variety of traditional Tainan snacks and local farm produce. She eats her way through the red trunk line's delicacies by bus.
Tainan City Mayor Lai Qingde stated that he hopes the light travel handbook will encourage the public to experience bus travel and discover the beauty of Tainan. This year continues the concept of the 2013 Public Transport Year. In addition to offering a NT$9 discount for those using electronic tickets to transfer from train to bus, basic fares for trunk and branch bus lines remain at a discounted NT$26, with an additional NT$9 off for transfers within two hours. Coupled with the real-time bus arrival information system of the Greater Tainan Bus app, travelers can conveniently check bus schedules.
