Create your own unique silver jewelry – A one-day silver jewelry metalworking experience

We chose this “double-ring design” ring, which is pretty simple yet elegant (pictured below). After selecting the style, we started our metalworking experience. There are also other styles to choose from, and you can even opt to have your jewelry engraved.

Once you get the materials, the instructor will patiently explain each step. The first thing you do is take the silver wire and “anneal” it to make it softer. You heat the wire with a gas torch and then cool it in cold water—you can even hear a “sizzle” sound. Then you cut the wire into two pieces, and take one to start hammering.

By gently tapping the wire with tools, you can create unique textures. Different pressure points and spacing will produce different effects.

After repeated annealing, hammering, and measuring your finger size, the ring gradually takes shape. Then you weld the ring into a complete circle, which requires good eyesight and attention to detail—I really struggled to align that tiny piece of silver XD. Thankfully, there was a professional instructor around to help.

Once the shape is done, the ring goes through an “acid wash” using alum solution and then gets polished in a polishing machine, making the color much more vibrant.

And just like that, your simple yet unique ring is finished!!
