It’s finally the weekend again！This week, besides the super popular 1,600 Paper Pandas exhibition that’s still ongoing, strawberry farmers in Neihu will also kick off Strawberry Season with special promotions. In addition, Nantou’s Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village has transitioned from cherry blossom season to lavender season, where over 100,000 Spanish lavender and salvia plants will create a purple romantic atmosphere distinct from the cherry blossoms. Meanwhile, the recently popular movie “KANO” has inspired many netizens to learn more about the history and glory of the Kano Baseball Team. The “Taiwan Baseball Spirit Themed Exhibition,” organized by the Chiayi City Cultural Affairs Bureau, is being held at the Chiayi Branch of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation. Starting with the achievements of the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry Baseball Team, the exhibition showcases nearly 300 cultural relics, offering an exciting experience.

Taipei City — 1,600 Paper Pandas Exhibition

Paper Pandas Craze！The 1,600 paper pandas officially made their debut on Friday last week at Taipei City Hall Plaza. According to the organizers, by 6:00 PM on the opening day, visitor numbers had exceeded 270,000. However, those planning to visit this weekend should note that the 1,600 paper pandas currently on display at Taipei City Hall Plaza will be taking a short break on March 9. As March 9 coincides with the “Tour de Taiwan International Cycling Race,” surrounding roads will be under full traffic control. To ensure the smooth running of the race and public safety, the exhibition organizers have decided to delay the opening time from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM that day. Visitors are advised to come after noon to avoid a wasted trip.

Taipei City — Neihu Strawberry Season

The Neihu Strawberry Season will begin on March 8. The strawberry harvest season in Neihu typically runs from December to April each year. Currently, there are nine sightseeing strawberry farms located around Bishan Road (Baishi Lake area) and Dahu Street. Unlike the open-field cultivation method used in Miaoli’s Dahu, most strawberry farms in Neihu use greenhouses and trellises. In addition to picking strawberries in the Baishi Lake area of Neihu, visitors can also enjoy the beauty of the mountain countryside, including the “Bihu Trail,” “Baishi Lake Suspension Bridge,” “Spring and Autumn Trail,” “Couple Trees,” “Concentric Circle Wetlands,” “Pitou,” and “Dragon Boat Rock.”

The opening event of the Strawberry Season will be held at 9:30 AM on March 8, 2014, at the Bishan Road Strawberry Farm (No. 40, Bishan Road) in Neihu District. Activities will include lion dance performances, a limited-edition strawberry love grab, and the distribution of NT$50 vouchers. Visitors can use the vouchers to get NT$50 off agricultural product purchases, valid only on the day, with a limit of 1,200 vouchers.

Nantou County — Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village Lavender Season

As the annual Cherry Blossom Festival at Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village comes to a close, it makes way for the “Lavender Season,” which brings a different kind of romance in soft purple hues. Over 100,000 Spanish lavender and salvia plants will turn the Shuishalian European Garden into a purple floral carpet. The village has designated March 9 (the second Sunday in March) as “Formosan Aboriginal Purple Valentine’s Day.” Couples or spouses who enter the park wearing purple lover outfits on that day and participate in the “Purple Love Flash” activity can freeze for 60 seconds together at exactly 3:09 PM to receive a small lavender-themed souvenir. If the purple outfits are purchased on-site at the village that day, visitors can show their receipts to receive an additional exclusive lavender gift.

Chiayi City — Taiwan Baseball Spirit Themed Exhibition

The “Taiwan Baseball Spirit Themed Exhibition,” organized by the Chiayi City Cultural Affairs Bureau, is on display until May 18 at the Chiayi Branch of the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation. The exhibition highlights the achievements of the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry Baseball Team, including the Triple Crown era, grassroots baseball development, the Care Cup Baseball Tournament, the Chuanfu Cup spirit, and the Zhulushan Cup events. It also features items from last year’s Classic Tournament, such as the blood-stained pants worn by Yang Yao-hsun after getting injured while playing against South Korea, the retired uniform of legendary coach Zeng Jien-en, and various record-breaking medals of professional baseball stars — showcasing nearly 300 cultural relics.
