Full bloom of cherry blossoms at Tamsui Tianyuan Temple; traffic controls enforced on weekends

“2014 New Taipei City Cherry Blossom Season – Cherry Blossom Mini Tour”: The cherry blossoms bloom from January to the end of March. The New Taipei City Government invites friends from home and abroad to visit the nationally renowned cherry blossom destination – Tamsui Wuji Tianyuan Temple – during March to admire the beautiful and romantic sights of Yoshino cherry blossoms. However, due to the limited width of Beixin Road, in order to avoid congestion and ensure safety, flexible traffic control measures will be implemented every weekend public holiday from now until March 31 between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Visitors are advised to use public transportation when coming to view the cherry blossoms.

Taiwanese mountain cherries, double-flowered cherries, and Yoshino cherries are blooming in succession across various districts in New Taipei’s romantic cherry blossom city. March is the peak blooming period for the beautifully romantic pink Yoshino cherry blossoms. According to the Tamsui Tianyuan Temple Flower Condition Report Fan Page, approximately 80% of the Yoshino cherry blossoms across the area have bloomed, with some fully bloomed trees gradually sprouting green leaves. Currently, the main blooming areas are concentrated behind the large rock to the right of the parking lot at the entrance of Tianyuan Temple, while the slope to the right of the altar has also entered its full bloom stage.

 

Given the large crowds of cherry blossom viewers during weekends, as well as the limited road width around Tianyuan Temple on Beixin Road and limited parking space, visitors wishing to enjoy the cherry blossom scenery in the mountains are encouraged to visit on non-public holidays or make use of public transportation. At Exit 2 of Tamsui MRT Station, follow the signs to the shuttle bus waiting area to board the paid cherry blossom tour bus. Buses depart from Tamsui MRT Station from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last bus returning from Tianyuan Temple at 5:30 PM. Alternatively, visitors can take the daily-operating paid buses 875, 876, 866, or 877 across the street to Tianyuan Temple to view the cherry blossoms.

 

To coincide with the Yoshino cherry blossom season at Tianyuan Temple, starting from March on weekends, depending on the traffic conditions on Route 101 (Beixin Road) and parking capacity, flexible vehicle entry restrictions will be implemented. However, buses, taxis, and local residents with valid identification will not be restricted. Once flexible controls are activated, vehicles will be prohibited from entering Beixin Road. Drivers will be directed by Tamsui District police officers and volunteer traffic wardens to park at the temporary parking lot on Xinshi Road before taking the paid cherry blossom tour bus to Tianyuan Temple. Paid cherry blossom tour buses run approximately once every 30 minutes.
