In late spring to early summer, the warm breeze heralds the arrival of firefly season. April and May are the best months to enjoy firefly-watching in Sun Moon Lake. The mountain-surrounded, water-rich natural environment is perfect for fireflies to breed and inhabit. In the areas under Sun Moon Lake’s jurisdiction — such as the Puli Taomi Community, Yuchi Lotus Pond Forest, Tou Shei area, and Tan Nan Village in Xinyi Township — fireflies can be spotted. Local hotels in the Sun Moon Lake area have also launched special accommodation deals for the firefly season and provide a “Firefly Map” on the event’s official website, allowing visitors to easily locate the most popular firefly-watching spots in the region.
