The 2014 Artistic Wonderland Carnival will kick off at Dream Mall on March 29–30, as a festive celebration jointly organized by the Kaohsiung City Government’s Information Bureau and Dream Mall. This year’s theme, “Spinning the Colorful Dreams of France,” includes special cross-border collaborations with artistic teams from France and the United States,featuring a float parade with 35 entries such as the “Flame Steel Pirate Ship,” a children’s “Animal Carnival Street Party,” the Artistic Wonderland Market, as well as a community float parade in Xinqijiang.Residents are welcome to join in the colorful festivities this weekend.

This year’s carnival, themed “Spinning the Colorful Dreams of France,” incorporates creative and international cultural elements. The highlight of the event,the float street parade, will kick off at 3:00 PM on March 29 along Era Boulevard, with 35 participating groups and nearly 700 performers.The main float — the “Flame Steel Pirate Ship” — was jointly created by six French artists using materials such as driftwood, scrap metal, and CDs. With creative touches like the Eiffel Tower and swings, the artists crafted a lively and imaginative flame steel pirate ship. The artists even dressed as pirates to celebrate with attendees. Other features include a cavalry seahorse team, the Brazilian Mr. Football team, and other eye-catching floats, along with performances by indigenous children’s samba drummers, community groups, samba queens, and the Bean Theater Troupe, inviting everyone to experience an international carnival atmosphere.
The children’s “Animal Carnival Street Party” at 3:00 PM on March 30 at Dream Mall will see over 300 kids transform into animals representing various musical instruments, dancing to the rhythm as if they were musical notes, creating a whimsical and unique fantasia in tribute to the French composer Saint-Saëns. Additionally,on the afternoon of March 30, the Kaohsiung City Carnival will be held simultaneously in the Xinqijiang shopping district, featuring samba queens, samba drum troupes, belly dance groups, and elaborately decorated floats parading through the streets.。

The carnival from March 29–30 specially invites artistic teams from Nice, France, and the United States for a cross-border collaboration. Over three months, they used 20 tons of recycled steel to create the 11.5-meter-tall giant installation art piece — “Belzebuth Beat: The Rhythm Devil. The Sound of Barium” — showcasing a perfect fusion of steel and fire art. In addition, there will be over 100 specialty stalls offering international cuisine, French merchandise, local specialties, and indigenous markets, as well as performances by more than 40 renowned performance art groups, including percussion ensembles, dance troupes, musicians, children’s theater, the Ten Drums Art Percussion Group, the Jiutian Folk Arts Troupe, Ming Hua Yuan Star Troupe, If Kids Theater, The Tayu Ancient Ballads Troupe, and the Xiban African Drum Team.
