The udon specialty store “Yokoi Somenjo,” under the Kagayado brand, traces its roots back to the 10th year of the Meiji era (1877 AD). This historic shop, with a legacy of 137 years, is making its first foray into Taiwan, offering high-quality ingredients at affordable prices to capture the local market. Kagayado Co., Ltd. operates various types of dining businesses, including udon shops, Japanese restaurants, casual washoku eateries, and Western-style izakayas. Among them, the udon specialty store “Yokoi Somenjo” is featured as the backdrop of a udon shop in the novel scenes of the Meiji-era Japanese literary master Izumi Kyoka. To this day, the flagship store in Japan continues to preserve the ambiance of a Meiji-era udon shop. Having been passed down to the fourth generation, Yokoi Somenjo has expanded from a street-side shop to department store locations. It currently has branches in China and Thailand, and officially entered the Taiwanese market in 2014, with plans to open over 10 branches within two years.
