Limited Release of "Light Up Happiness Package" for Extra Pingxi Policemen's Sky Lantern Show

Since its opening on White Day this year, the "Pingxi Police Substation Policemen's Sky Lantern" has received widespread acclaim. To allow more visitors to experience the charm of customized LED wish sky lanterns, additional shows will be held starting April 10th, with the daily schedule moved up to start at 4:00 PM, featuring hourly sky lantern shows and personalized LED wish sky lanterns for visitors.

The exterior of the Pingxi Police Substation is made of glass curtains and 193,924 LED lights. In addition to maintaining local public safety, it offers the unique Policemen's Sky Lantern experience, where visitors can write their wishes on a postcard. After computer processing, during holidays from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on weekdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, every hour after a 3-minute sky lantern show, the handwritten wishes on the postcards will ascend into the sky on the Policemen's Sky Lanterns. The postcards carrying the wishes will also be mailed to the intended recipients with assistance from staff.

 

Each night’s 3-minute sky lantern show mainly depicts how sky lanterns were originally invented by Zhuge Liang to transmit military intelligence. In the early days in the Pingxi mountains, when bandits attacked, the lanterns were used by residents to send messages of safety to their families and pray to the heavens. As time passed, coal trains transitioned to serving travelers, and traditional sky lanterns, through the creativity of local artisans, took on various colors and shapes, each with its own symbolic meaning, preserving tradition with innovation. The story of the sky lantern show culminates in the annual Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, where as each lantern is lit and released, the wishes for peace and happiness, under the same night sky, remain unchanged despite the passage of time and space.

 

Each Policemen's Sky Lantern costs 150 NTD. Visitors can sign up on-site at the Pingxi Police Substation, or pre-register by phone to reserve a release time. Alternatively, they can choose the "Light Up Happiness Package" launched by the New Taipei City Tourism and Travel Bureau. The package is priced at 300 NTD and includes one Policemen's Sky Lantern release voucher and 300 NTD in shopping vouchers, which can be used at over 130 shops in the area. The package is available for purchase at the Pingxi Police Substation, Jing Tong Qiao Men Western Pastry Cake Shop, Pingxi Mingtong Yashè, Pingxi Meiyun Fabric Art Studio, and Shifen Railway Art Gallery, among others.
