Limited Launch of the Wulai Fushan Summer Cooling Tribal Trip

 

The New Taipei City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau stated that this year’s “Wulai Fushan Leisure Tour” combines the ecological fish conservation trail along the Daluolan Stream in Wulai Fushan. Led by local tribal guides, participants can deeply immerse themselves in the area’s rich ecological resources. This is a special tour that blends tribal culture with natural ecology. During the trip, thanks to former Fuhsan Elementary School principal Huang Meiling — who has dedicated half her life to the school — and who, moved by Fushan’s beautiful mountains, waters, and climate, as well as the abandoned land due to tribal members moving away, rented land from the tribe after retirement to grow vegetables and fruits. This initiative helps create job opportunities for villagers, and the profits from selling produce go toward supporting student scholarships.

The itinerary also follows the water channel past a church. Reverend Lin Ching-tai, who has stepped down from his “Monan Rudo” identity, came to Fushan Presbyterian Church. Prior to this, the church had been without a pastor for many years, and for decades its stone building had fallen into disrepair and was unusable. Starting in 2014, the reverend wanted to renovate the church building to provide the tribe with a more comfortable spiritual sanctuary. In addition, the water channel path is also a must-visit on this mini-trip. Originally built to teach the Atayal people how to cultivate rice, although there are no rice paddies in the tribe now, the water channel still flows smoothly, nourishing the surrounding land. The rich nutrients have made it a lively paradise for dragonflies, butterflies, frogs, and plants in the valley environment.

 

At noon, a local-style lunch is arranged. Participants can experience making handmade materials using simple plant-based (such as Job’s tears, acorns, and arrow bamboo) and colorful bead materials sourced locally in Fushan, crafting their own unique lucky bracelets. Later, they will visit the small but culturally rich Fuhsan Elementary School closely tied to Atayal culture, and explore the school’s Atayal Cultural Museum.
