The peak season for firefly viewing is coming to an end. The New Taipei City Agriculture Bureauwill host the last two free firefly ecology guided tours this Saturday (May 3, 18:30–20:30) at two locations: “Quzhu in Xindian” and “Pingxi Old Street.”It also recommends three half-day firefly-viewing routes. Firefly enthusiasts should seize the opportunity to explore New Taipei City this weekend.

◎ Recommended Itineraries and Attractions:
1. By Train (Railfan’s Journey): Explore historic sites and visit the cat village in Houtong → Enjoy fireflies and release sky lanterns in Pingxi Old Street. (Take the TRA train from Taipei Main Station to Houtong Station via the Yilan Branch Line → Transfer to the Pingxi Branch Line to Pingxi Station)

2. By Bus (Elderly-Friendly Hiking): Explore historic sites and try stinky tofu in Shenkeng → Enjoy fireflies and release sky lanterns in Pingxi Old Street. (Take a bus from Muzha Metro Station to Shenkeng Station → Then take Bus No. 795)

3. By Car (Date Night): View fireflies at Quzhu Elementary School in Xindian → Eat wild vegetables and soak in hot springs in Wulai. (Turn right at the Quzhu intersection on Section 2 of Xin-Wu Road and drive down to No. 55 Quzhu Road → Continue up Xin-Wu Road toward Wulai Mountain)

The Agriculture Bureau reminds firefly viewers to pay attention to several key points:“Do not catch fireflies,” “do not enter their habitats,” “do not use lights to disturb them,” “do not make loud noises,” as well as “wear long-sleeved clothing,” and “apply mosquito repellent.”If you need to illuminate the path, cover your flashlight with dark-colored cellophane in advance to reduce light pollution and avoid disturbing the fireflies. For firefly viewing attire, it is recommended to wear lightweight, comfortable, natural-colored long-sleeved clothing to prevent mosquito bites. Photographers should never use flash when taking pictures.
