On May 21, EVA Air simultaneously introduced two brand-new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with significant upgrades across interior seating, in-flight entertainment systems, and cabin service amenities. EVA Air also specially held the “Amazingly Great – New Boeing 777-300ER Aircraft Launch Event,” using situational storytelling to guide participants through the differences between old and new flight experiences alongside characters from a drama, while also premiering various upgraded features. Guests were invited to look forward to the brand-new “flight mode” brought by the new aircraft.

The new aircraft are equipped with the latest Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system and GCS (Global Communication Suite) global communication service system, making EVA Air the world’s first airline officially certified by Boeing to fully integrate GCS and eX3 on the 777-300ER model. The new aircraft offer SMS mobile roaming services, allowing passengers to conveniently send and receive text messages using their own phones “on the same device and same number.” They are also equipped with SKY Wi-Fi functionality, which can be used when the aircraft flies above 20,000 feet. Passengers can send and receive emails, use mobile instant messaging apps, and even fulfill their dream of an aerial “check-in.” SKY Wi-Fi is charged based on time usage, with options for passengers to choose either 1 hour for $11.95 USD (tax included) or 24 hours for $21.95 USD (tax included), based on their needs.

The SMS mobile roaming service allows passengers to conveniently send and receive text messages using their own phones “on the same device and same number.” All billing methods are the same as those for standard aviation roaming text messages, charged via the passenger’s original mobile carrier (such as Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone, Taiwan Mobile, etc.) on their phone bill, ensuring passengers remain connected to ground-based communications without delay while in the air.

Along with the new eX3 in-flight entertainment system—Sky Corridor—all classes are outfitted with high-resolution, large-size screens, offering passengers a high-definition visual experience of premium audiovisual entertainment during the flight. The interface is also leading nationwide, adopting iPad-like functionality by replacing traditional tapping with swiping. Passengers can directly control the screen through sliding and touch gestures, whether selecting movie scenes or playing in-flight games, delivering a smooth, tablet-like experience. Even when watching videos, there's no hassle with difficult controls for rewinding or fast-forwarding.

Along with the new aircraft, EVA Air will also upgrade various in-flight service amenities on the Boeing 777-300ER. Royal Laurel Class will offer new noise-canceling headphones with enhanced sound quality and active noise cancellation features, and will begin providing the renowned bottled water brand FIJI Water from the Fiji Islands, as well as a pajama service, allowing passengers to enjoy a homely level of comfort on board. The popular Rimowa overnight bag will also be redesigned, launching in two new colorways: “CRYSTAL GREEN” (pearlescent green) and its classic “PROSECCO” (light gold). In the future, passengers on outbound and return flights will receive two different colored overnight bags, catering to those who enjoy collecting them.

These two new aircraft are scheduled to operate weekly on Sundays and Mondays starting June 3 for BR32 Taipei–New York flights, and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for BR12 Taipei–Los Angeles flights. With the new aircraft in service, EVA Air will also increase frequencies on Taipei–North America routes starting June 2. Vancouver routes will increase from three to four weekly flights, Toronto from three to four, New York from five to seven, and Los Angeles from 17 to 20 weekly flights. After the third new aircraft returns to Taiwan in June, a second phase of route expansion for San Francisco and Los Angeles will follow, bringing the total Taipei–North America route frequency to 55 weekly flights.
