The world’s largest wisteria tunnel – yellow and white wisteria are also captivating

Ashikaga Flower Park, renowned for its wisteria, showcases a wide array of flowers and scenic designs. Its wisteria collection includes three wisteria trellises covering 300 tsubo each, one eight-layered wisteria trellis also covering 300 tsubo, as well as an 80-meter-long white wisteria tunnel and a yellow wisteria tunnel—making it a rare wisteria-themed park in the world. Different flower seasons are complemented by nighttime light-up events. Every winter, 2.1 million bulbs are used to recreate the blooming splendor, illuminated by colorful lights to create a fantastical, dreamy world.

The “Great Long Wisteria” is a large trellis where purple wisteria blooms are arranged horizontally from top to bottom, with each vine stretching 1.7 meters, welcoming visitors at the park’s west entrance. The “Noda’s Kyu-Shaku Wisteria (also known as the Great Wisteria)” has a tree age of over 145 years, and its wisteria trellis covering over 300 tsubo is truly magnificent. During the Great Wisteria season, a nighttime light show is held, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of wisteria after dark. There is also the “Yae Kurogoku” formed by the rare yae (double-flowered) wisteria variety. Though the vines are shorter, they bloom densely, resembling clusters of grapes, creating a dreamy purple canopy that visitors adore. Wisteria has even been designated as a Natural Monument of Tochigi Prefecture.

From late April to mid-May is the peak blooming season for wisteria. In addition to purple wisteria, white wisteria is also a highlight. The “White Wisteria Tunnel,” stretching 80 meters and covered by 23 white wisteria vines, is the only one of its kind in the world. The “White Wisteria Waterfall” is a flat-style display where white wisteria forms a wall-like spread, resembling a white waterfall from a distance—thus its name. The 80-meter-long “Yellow Wisteria Tunnel” is strikingly vibrant, and this yellow floral tunnel is also a rare sight worldwide.

From late May to June, the park enters its rose-blooming season, with colorful roses blooming freely like a rainbow. Rose arches stand within the park, becoming key spots where visitors stop to admire and take photos.

Ticket prices at Ashikaga Flower Park vary depending on the seasonal flower displays. During the peak purple wisteria season from mid-April to May, ticket prices are typically higher—around 900 to 1,700 yen for adults and 500 to 800 yen for children (depending on the blooming conditions). Ticket prices are lower in summer and autumn, but rise again during winter when the nighttime light shows are held.
