The Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government organized the "Greater Taichung Ocean Music Festival" environmental education outreach event to coincide with World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8). The event was held on Saturday, June 7, 103 (2014), from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Da’an Beach.

This event combines World Environment Day and World Oceans Day. In addition to live performances by bands playing ocean-themed songs, there were also fun and engaging environmental education challenge games, with limited-edition (100 available) gifts for participants who completed the challenges. Everyone is invited to spend a meaningful afternoon during the holiday learning about and caring for the ocean. Through experiential activities and the power of music, the public can better understand the importance of protecting the ocean. Without a healthy ocean, there is no healthy Earth. Let’s unite together to “Protect the Ocean, Defend the Earth.”

　 Huang Chung-tien, Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government, stated that this event specially incorporates the distinctive beaches of Taichung, with performances by rock bands energizing the atmosphere, along with environmental education activities, all working together to realize this year’s World Environment Day slogan — “Raise your voice, not the sea level” — to jointly address climate change issues. Additionally, through getting closer to nature and taking personal action, participants can realize that the ocean is the cradle of life, and that rational development and utilization are essential to ensuring the sustainable development of marine ecology and resources. The public is encouraged to recognize that ocean resources are not infinite and must be preserved for future generations, so we can continue to protect this precious environment and its resources.

The Environmental Protection Bureau of Taichung City Government also calls on everyone to join in this year’s World Oceans Day theme — “Together we have the power to protect the ocean.” We sincerely invite you to join this “Greater Taichung Ocean Music Festival” event with your family and friends. This summer, let’s party together in Da’an and give a big embrace to our beautiful ocean.
