As the FIFA World Cup enters the Round of 16 knockout stage, the football fever across Taiwan is heating up even more. Although this year’s Brazil World Cup matches are all being broadcast in the early hours of the morning, to serve the large fan base, Taipei Main Station Fashion Mall had originally planned to start broadcasting the quarterfinal matches (replays) during business hours only on July 5 (Saturday), but has decided to start three days earlier—on July 2 (Wednesday)—during business hours. This allows visitors from all over to enjoy the excitement of the World Cup together!

The list of World Cup quarterfinalists has now been secured by six countries: Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Costa Rica. Tomorrow (July 2), the final two spots for the last eight will also be determined. Taipei Main Station, sensing that the whole of Taiwan is caught up in World Cup mania, has decided to start broadcasting replays of the Round of 16 matches during business hours on July 2 (Wednesday), rather than waiting until July 5 (Saturday) as originally scheduled. As the quarterfinalists are announced, the jerseys of the eliminated national teams are now all discounted by 30%. For example, adidas commemorative jerseys of the Spain, Japan, Russia, and Mexico national teams, originally priced at NT$2,690, are now on special offer for NT$1,883.
Taipei Main Station has observed that although these countries did not advance to the quarterfinals, some fans still chose to purchase their jerseys at the 30% discount. Meanwhile, jerseys of other strong teams such as Germany, Brazil, and Argentina were sold out within just 2–3 days of the tournament starting, and now only themed T-shirts of those countries remain available for fans to show support. Additionally, Taipei Main Station has noticed that brands that launched World Cup-related merchandise this year have indeed seen a sales boost due to the growing tournament buzz, with average growth ranging from 20% to 50%. In addition to adidas, Nike, and PUMA, brands like PONY and FILA have also benefited from the World Cup. Moreover, from July 10 to July 13, when the World Cup reaches its finals, Taipei Main Station has specially gathered a variety of well-known beer brands from both inside and outside the mall: Golden Tri-Malt, Budweiser (the official beer of the 2014 World Cup), Germany’s Op&Top beer, Erdinger white beer, Belgium’s iki green tea and yuzu-flavored beer, and dozens of other global brews—so you can enjoy a cold one while watching the games!
