On July 4th, passengers at Kaohsiung MRT Zuoying Station felt as if they had stepped into Hong Kong, greeted by familiar MTR station signs and spontaneous appearances by legendary Hong Kong movie characters. This was part of a collaborative promotional campaign by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, which brought the ambiance of Hong Kong’s MTR stations to the Zuoying Station platform, along with real-life reenactments of beloved Hong Kong movie figures cherished by Taiwanese audiences.

Looking at the platform, passengers could see the “God of Cookery”’s Sister Chicken pushing a food cart and singing, legendary martial artist Bruce Lee wielding his nunchucks, the most agile fat guy Six from Shaolin Soccer practicing soccer kung fu in a hilarious display, the stylish “God of Gamblers” dramatically flipping poker cards, cool Hong Kong police officers marching sharply, and even “A Chinese Ghost Story’s” Ning Caichen and the lawyer from “Beyond the Law” sporting curly silver wigs weaving through the crowd. The moment the train doors opened, they broke into the classic Hong Kong dance hit “Can’t Stop Dancing,” prompting excited onlookers to grab their cameras.

Funnily enough, the Zuoying Station platform looked just like real-life scenes from Central, Wan Chai, and Admiralty MTR stations, complete with Hong Kong-themed photos that created a vivid sense of depth—making it feel like you could step into Hong Kong any second. Xu Wei-ni, Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board in Taiwan, said: “Hong Kong is currently in the midst of its Summer Super Sale. Aside from shopping and gourmet delights, visitors can also enjoy events like the Lan Kwai Fong Music and Beer Festival, the Summer Pop Music Festival, and the Hong Kong Book Fair—turning the entire city into a non-stop summer party.”

This summer, Hong Kong is also rolling out the “Hong Kong FUN Share Summer Gifts” campaign to attract visitors. In addition to the ongoing Summer Super Sale, summer is peak family travel season, and Hong Kong—with its proximity and shared language—is the easiest choice for parents traveling abroad with kids. This year, Ocean Park’s Summer Splash features the brand-new Southeast Asia’s largest shark aquarium “Shark Mystique,” home to over 100 sharks of 15 different species. The “Dynamic Zone” hosts a Summer Carnival Party, where visitors can dance under dazzling lights and colorful bubbles in a giant dance floor. Following years of expansion, Hong Kong Disneyland has added new themed lands such as Mystic Point, Grizzly Gulch, and Toy Story Land, beloved by visitors of all ages. Meanwhile, Sky100, Hong Kong’s only 360-degree observation deck, is featuring whimsical 3D art installations of famous landmarks this summer.

Additionally, in recent years Hong Kong has embraced a cultural and creative trend, with many unique boutiques gathering in Sheung Wan—a treasure trove for culture lovers. The newly opened PMQ Yuan Art Square, a landmark for Hong Kong’s arts and culture scene, is housed in a historic building that was formerly a married police quarters. The revamped space now hosts over 100 designer shops and studios by Hong Kong creatives. It is currently exhibiting 1,600 paper pandas and has become a new hotspot for cultural exploration.

To promote Hong Kong’s arts and culture, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office will also host the “Art Walk @ Hong Kong” cultural lecture series in Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 Art Center from August to September, focusing on Hong Kong’s cuisine and fashion. Speakers include renowned chef Xu ? from Wan Chai’s Yin Yang Restaurant, and fashion designer Kwok Tsui-wah, who has gained industry recognition and numerous awards over the past decade for her modern cheongsam designs under the brand Ranee K. Throughout July, the Zuoying Station site will also distribute “Art Walk @ Hong Kong” special editions and showcase the pop-up book "Hong Kong Pop-Up," which tells Hong Kong stories in 3D, providing visitors with a wealth of information.
