Handsome Head Chef Jamie’s Italian Restaurant Makes Its Delicious Debut in Hong Kong

Jamie’s Italian presents a range of dishes all made with traceable and sustainable fresh ingredients. The cooking style is meticulous but not overly elaborate. Guests can also fully appreciate the cooking process through the restaurant’s open design—watching pasta masters make fresh pasta at their own station, chefs prepare fresh charcuterie platters at the antipasti bar, and the team prepare every dish with care in the open kitchen.

 

The design concepts of Jamie’s Italian branches around the world are all distinctive, and the Hong Kong branch is no exception. The British design firm Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS) has specially incorporated many design elements that reflect local culture and characteristics for the Hong Kong location.For example, a shipping container is placed in the kitchen area as a nod to Causeway Bay’s history as a fishing village, while vibrant colors and unique design techniques embody the idea of “letting food take center stage.”

To highlight a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, a large wall in the restaurant features graffiti art inspired by Hong Kong culture, designed by Jamie Oliver’s friend and art enthusiast Barnaby Purdy. Having collaborated with Jamie’s restaurants multiple times before, Barnaby created a graffiti design for Jamie’s Italian Hong Kong depicting a dragon guarding Hong Kong against tempting mermaids and storms—a colorful and vibrant piece full of Eastern charm. In addition to Barnaby’s personal design, local Hong Kong artist Barlo also contributed, showcasing a piece themed around the Chinese fu dog on another wall in the restaurant.

 

Since the opening of the first Jamie’s Italian in Oxford, UK in 2008, the restaurant business has continuously expanded across regions, and now has a total of 40 branches in the UK, Europe, and Asia. The Hong Kong branch will be led by General Manager Stella Cheng and Executive Chef Adrian Kavanagh.
