The name "Mugucuoyu" originates from the language of the Truku people. It was first used by the Truku tribes who migrated to this area, using their native tongue to praise this beautiful hidden paradise.Mugucuoyu is located in Tongmen Village, Xiulin Township, Hualien County. The area is primarily inhabited by the Truku people. To sustain their livelihoods, local residents planned the "Mugucuoyu Ecological Corridor," aiming to develop eco-tourism as the main focus. This initiative creates local job opportunities so residents do not have to leave their hometowns for work elsewhere. It has generated positive effects, helping more people learn about Mugucuoyu while also protecting this beautiful wonderland from excessive human damage.

Mugucuoyu is a protected area, with a daily limit on visitor numbers — 300 in the morning and 300 in the afternoon, meaning a total of 600 visitors per day. This restriction helps protect Mugucuoyu’s environment from excessive human impact. To enter Mugucuoyu, visitors must first apply for a mountain entry permit at the Tongmen Police Station, bringing along their ID card, driver's license, and paying a NT$10 application fee.

On the way to Mugucuoyu, visitors are greeted by rolling green mountains and drifting white clouds. Upon reaching the Tongmen checkpoint, simply present your newly acquired hiking permit to gain entry. Inside Mugucuoyu, you will see Taiwan’s oldest hydroelectric power plant — the Chingshui Power Plant, located beside the Chingshui River. The rushing waters between the valleys resemble a silvery cascade, truly magnificent.

※ Recently, Typhoon Matmo severely damaged Hualien, causing a landslide at the tunnel entrance leading to Mugucuoyu. Although clearance efforts have been made, the area remains unsafe and is temporarily closed to entry.
