Last updated 2026-09-25 — Every August, endless fields of golden needle flowers bloom across the Liushishi Mountain in Hualien, where golden seas of blossoms unfurl amid lush green mountain mists, interweaving with the majestic Zonggu Mountains to form a vibrant summer golden ocean. Like emerald-green blankets, the flower seas densely blanket the undulating mountain ridges, while a few farmhouses topped with red tiles are scattered across the verdant fields, creating an idyllic and rustic scene.
Liushishi Mountain is picturesque and renowned as the most European-feeling spot in the area. Every golden needle flower season, it attracts large numbers of visitors eager to experience its European-style mountain views and seas of golden blooms. The Hualien County Government will hold a concert at the Shanlan Pavilion on Liushishi Mountain in Fuli Township on August 16, 2014 (Saturday).Visitors can not only admire the golden needle flowers in full bloom, witnessing their myriad forms throughout the day, but also enjoy the gentle breezes of the Pacific while standing amidst the golden flower fields. In the afternoon, they can listen to the melodious sounds of Mo Yan, the Pasibutbut eight-part harmony, Hakka folk songs performed by the Zhutian Community Hakka Choir, the Shengzi Music Ensemble Wind Orchestra, and the Shengzi Music Percussion Chamber Orchestra echoing through the mountains. It will undoubtedly be a feast for both the eyes and ears—the most wonderful summer experience of the year.
