Director Hsu Chuan-sheng stated that since the gas explosion, false rumors have spread online claiming that Kaohsiung is toxic, deterring many tourists and causing hotel occupancy rates to drop by over 30%. The tourism industry was impacted. In reality, all major tourist attractions in Kaohsiung remained unharmed, and the city remains beautiful.
