Mingchi Forest Recreation Area is located at the border between Datong Township in Yilan County and Fuxing Township in Taoyuan County, also known as "Chi Duan." It is an alpine man-made lake. Surrounded by dense primeval forests rich in vibrant ecosystems, the area is perennially enshrouded in mist, offering enchanting scenery. Known as the “Crown Jewel of High Mountains,” it is a serene and secluded paradise. Influenced by the forest environment, the space here is enclosed, cool, and often shaded, with sunlight barely reaching the ground, creating an otherworldly ambiance.

The entire recreation area sits at an altitude of 1,150 to 1,700 meters, boasting a cool climate and breathtaking scenery that resembles a fairyland, making it a popular summer retreat in northern Taiwan. The park features recreational facilities such as a youth activity center, a nursery, and forest trails. With its thriving ecosystem, apart from rich forest landscapes, the woods are also frequented by birds, butterflies, squirrels, mandarin ducks, and mallards.
