This film tells the story of Hirano Yuuki (played by Sometani Shota), an 18-year-old boy who does nothing all day and drifts through life. After failing his university entrance exams and being dumped by his girlfriend, he aimlessly thinks about just getting by with part-time jobs for the rest of his life—until he stumbles upon a forestry recruitment pamphlet, where he surprisingly spots a stunning beauty (played by Nagasawa Masami). He then takes the initiative to head to “Kamusari Village,” a remote mountain village in Mie Prefecture, and begins a logging life he never imagined. The mountains are filled only with wild animals and a senior named Iida (played by Itô Hideaki), who is as rough and beastly as they come. Yuuki endures strict training every day and is forced to adapt to the villagers’ unique dialect and lifestyle of “nan ya~ nan ya~.” After enduring the tough initiation of forestry work—from initially thinking “What the heck is forestry?” and constantly scheming to escape this mountain village with no cell service—he gradually comes to love Kamusari Village. Eventually, he even utters his very first “nan ya~ nan ya~.” As he is slowly accepted by the villagers, he is entrusted with an important task—to take on Kamusari Village’s biggest challenge yet...
