Attention Japanese travel fans: the New Taiwan Dollar has been exceptionally strong recently, and coupled with a weaker Japanese Yen, the JPY exchange rate has been on a continuous decline. On the 15th, the cash exchange rate for JPY to TWD at Taiwan Bank closed at 0.2713, just a step away from breaking into the 0.26 range. Although the bottom is uncertain, the rate has hit a 14-month low. Those planning to travel to Japan soon might want to exchange some money now, using a strategy of buying in installments to average out the cost.
At the end of November last year, the JPY-to-TWD exchange rate dropped from the 0.29 range to 0.28, then further to the 0.27 range. Many Japanese travel enthusiasts have been waiting for it to hit the 0.26 range before exchanging their money, so they can prepare for an amazing trip or shopping spree in Japan. Based on the recent three-month high of 0.3092 and today’s rate of 0.2713, that’s a difference of 0.0379. Exchanging 30,000 TWD could get you an extra 13,554 JPY — enough for two-day passports to Disneyland or over ten bowls of Ippudo ramen.
