Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau Director Chen Jun-an stated that the FYE photography competition is different from other photography contests, as it requires participants to complete five themed creations within 24 hours based on given topics, making it the ultimate challenge of both physical endurance and photography skills. Participants ventured into streets and alleys, freely capturing a more distinctive side of Tainan. It’s not hard to see from the award-winning works that within 24 hours in Tainan—from dawn to noon, from dusk to nightfall—each different scene unfolds its own unique story, with interactions between people and the land creating moving narratives that enrich the pulse of Tainan’s story.

After a rigorous selection process, seven major awards (including the Grand Jury Prize, three Merit Awards, and three Honorable Mentions) were chosen from numerous entries. The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to the team of Chien Chia-hung and Kuo Mei-chen, whose work vividly captures the local grassroots life and cultural characteristics of Tainan through light and shadow changes and storytelling. The first stop, “Waltz,” featuring a roller-skating boy alongside a mechanic, tells the story of how the people of Tainan are constantly composing beautiful memories of life for their city. The second stop, “The Taste of Travel,” stands out by highlighting the surprises and small joys discovered during a journey in Tainan. The third stop, “Party Night,” showcases the charm of Tainan’s nightlife through the world-famous Garden Night Market. The fourth stop, “Alice in Wonderland,” presents a whimsical and creative culture through archway stone lions, the artistically designed Hai’an Road, and the Little West Gate public art. The final stop, “Ancient Capital Illuminated,” uses light and shadow to reflect the mysterious, serene, candid, and vibrant nature of Tainan’s ancient city, closely resonating with the passionate and culturally rich people of Tainan.
