Step into a forest-themed Studio Ghibli animation scene at Tainan’s “Thousand Plots Seed Museum”

Floral-themed decorations are no longer rare, but have you ever seen a museum themed around “seeds”? The “Thousand Plots Seed Museum” is tucked away in the alleys of Tainan’s urban area. Every plant in the park was personally cultivated by the owner couple. Though the space isn’t large, it houses a dazzling array of seeds, giving the feel of stumbling upon the old countryside house hidden in Hayao Miyazaki’s *My Neighbor Totoro*—as if an animated world has come to life.

The “Thousand Plots Seed Museum” was built over 30 years by a husband-and-wife team surnamed Liang. Though the building looks old from the outside, inside it’s a hidden gem—like stepping into a green oasis in the city. The furniture and decorations are all made from recycled materials, exuding a natural ambiance everywhere.

The museum houses a variety of seeds collected by owner Mr. Liang, such as those from traveler’s tree, poinsettia, palm, and rosary pea... etc. Through professional explanations, visitors can learn all about the stories behind these seeds. Notably,advance reservation is required for entry, and the 100 NT$ admission fee includes a roughly 30-minute guided tour.The museum director noted that besides the guided tour time, visitors are also free to explore on their own, with a recommended minimum visit duration of one hour.

After learning about the seeds through expert introductions, the female owner also crafts many seed-based handicrafts. It’s as if each seed has been enchanted, transforming into different artistic creations. If you’d like to make your own unique seed artwork, the museum offers DIY workshops (fees range from 100 to 1,500 NT$), such as seed-woven wreaths (priced approximately from 600 to 1,500 NT$, depending on size), or seed wind chimes. In addition, homemade floral waters, handmade soaps, and incense are also among the museum’s specialties.
