Golden Rice Wave Pond Autumn Harvest Art Festival: A-Mei Performs on the Road to Heaven

The annual Chihshang Autumn Harvest Rice Art Festival is about to return. Continuing last year’s success, when Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, invited by the Taiwan Good Foundation, allowed audiences to be among the first to experience the allure of their new work “Rice” in the golden rice waves of Chihshang — set against the backdrop of the Central Mountain Range and with the golden rice stalks as the stage — this year’s edition will be even more stunning. The 2023 Chihshang Autumn Harvest Rice Art Festival will invite A-Mei to return to her hometown of Taitung. During the autumn harvest season, she will come to Chihshang to sing songs of the land. Not only will A-MEI give back to her hometown through song, but also to the land, nurturing infinite possibilities. Her voice will echo through the valley, and there is hope for a bountiful harvest for the farmers.

The Chihshang Autumn Harvest Rice Art Festival originally began in 2009, when the Taiwan Good Foundation invited “Piano Prince” Chen Guanyu to perform in Chihshang, receiving an enthusiastic response and even being featured on the website of TIME Magazine in the United States. In 2010 and 2011, the festival respectively invited “Yeh Shuh-han Brass Quintet” and “Musikverein Orchestra” to perform in Chihshang. In the autumn of 2012, the festival specially invited “U-Theatre,” known for uniting martial arts and art, to present a performance style distinct from typical musical shows. This event drew over 3,000 spectators, marking a record attendance and revealing Chihshang’s potential and natural suitability as a venue for international-level performances. In 2013, on the 40th anniversary of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, the troupe chose to dance in the Chihshang rice fields, swaying with the wind and using dance to call out to a beautiful Taiwan. They gave both domestic and international audiences a magical, touching, and unforgettable performance. This year, the Taiwan Good Foundation has invited A-Mei to Chihshang, where she will use her rich and powerful voice to sing praises for this vast and boundless land.

This year, on November 1st and 2nd, 2014, the Chihshang Autumn Harvest Rice Art Festival – A-Mei’s Song of the Landwill take the cloud waterfall as its curtain and the golden rice fields as its stage. A-Mei will sing in the beautiful rice paddies of Chihshang, presenting a rich and diverse performance. With a voice as bright and joyful as sunlight, she will express her gratitude toward her hometown and sing moving songs that celebrate the abundance of this land. The breathing of the soil, the fullness of the rice ears — A-Mei will sing for the first time in the vast rice fields of Chihshang. A-Mei’s Song of the Land is dedicated to the beautiful Chihshang.
