Urban Micro-Trips: Taipei’s 4 Hidden MRT Routes

To allow the public to experience the convenience of Taipei’s MRT, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism has specially planned a series of activities under the “Lucky Taipei Full Experience Program.” Among them, the “Welcome to Taipei” stay-and-ride MRT stamp-collecting raffle event, as well as the “Urban Micro-Trips” MRT-guided one-day tour experience, both kicked off on November 15. Both events offer rich and exciting content along with attractive participation gifts.

The “Urban Micro-Trips” guided one-day tour experience is an exclusive gift for Taipei residents. Registration officially opened at 9:00 AM on November 15, featuring four themed routes. In addition to professional guides providing commentary throughout, the activity also includes lunch and MRT fare cards. Participants who complete the entire experience will also receive a small MRT network scarf. There are 5,000 limited spots available. Taipei residents are welcome to register online or by phone to join the experience.

The initiative aims to help Taipei residents, who usually commute by MRT, explore different MRT lines and visit popular commercial and sightseeing spots around various stations. This helps them better understand the convenience of Taipei’s MRT network as well as the city’s local tourism resources and unique features. Any resident with a registered household in Taipei City can sign up for the “Urban Micro-Trips” activity. Each route allows one registration per person, with groups of around 30 people per session. There are four different themed routes: “Art & Culture Treasure Hunt,” “Family Fun for Kids,” “Nature & Hiking,” and “Historical Nostalgia.”

● “Art & Culture Treasure Hunt”
The route first visits the culturally rich National Taiwan University, then explores the Treasure Hill area known for its unique cultural landscape and artistic vibe. Next, participants will visit two of Taipei’s most renowned creative parks—Huashan 1914 Creative Park and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.This route generally departs every Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

● “Family Fun for Kids”
The route takes participants on the Maokong Gondola to the Maokong Camphor Trail for a nature walk. Both adults and children can breathe fresh air away from the usual urban hustle and bustle amidst the mountains. Lunch is enjoyed at Da’an Forest Park, known as the “Lungs of Taipei.” The trip then continues to the Children’s Art Education Center at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, where they can view works by the 20th-century renowned artist Paul Klee. The site features highly interactive play installations that help children develop an appreciation for art through play.This route generally departs every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.
